　　Most people think that the older you get, the harder it is to learn a new language. This is because they believe that children learn languages more easily and efficiently than adults. Thus, at some point in our lives, maybe around ages 12 or 13, we lose the ability to learn languages well. Is it true that children learn a foreign language more efficiently than adults? It may not necessarily be the case. In fact, the ability to learn language increases as the age increases, from childhood to adulthood.

　　There are several possible explanations for these findings. For one thing, adults know more about the world and, therefore, are able to understand things more easily than children. Moreover, adults can use logical thinking to help them see patterns in the language. Finally, adults have more self discipline than children.

　　All in all, the common conception that children are better language learners than adults may not necessarily be true. Hopefully, this would encourage adult learners to become successful language learners, no matter what new languages they want to learn.

　　Dahua was brought up in a poor family. Since he didn't do well in school, he joined his father in collecting garbage for a living soon after he graduated from elementary school. His neighbors shook their heads whenever they saw him, thinking that this boy would by no means carve out a bright future. Years passed by, and Dahua kept collecting garbage, but he took one step further. Through books he knew how to sort out the waste he had collected and have it recycled. You know what? 　　A theory often involves an imaginary model that helps scientists picture the way an

　　molecular theory, in which gases are pictured as being made up of many small particles

　　A useful theoty, in addition to explaining past observations, helps to predict events

　　that have not as yet been ovserved. After a theory has been publized, scientists design

　　experiments to test the theory. If observations confirm the scientists predictions, the

　　theory is supported. If observations do not confirm the predictions, the scientists must

　　search further. There may be a fault in the experiment, or the theory may have to be

　　revised or rejected.

　　Science involves imagination and creative thinking as well as collecting information

　　and performing experiments. Facts by thenselves are not science. As the mathematician

　　Jules Henri Poincare said: "Science is built with facts just as a house is built with

　　bricks, But a collection of facts cannot be called science any more than a pile of bricks

　　can be called a house."

　　Most scientists start an investigation by finding out what other scientists have

　　learned avout a particular problem. After kmown facts have been gathered, the scientist

　　comes to the part of the investigation that requires considerable imagination. Possible

　　solutions to the problem are formulated. these possible solutions are called hypotheses.

　　In a way, any hypothesis is a leap into the unknown. It extents the scientist s
