Holiday economy is not new to people all around the world. In China, it stands for the nationwide one-week holiday starting from October 1st (the National Day). The government established the week-long holiday back in 1999 to stimulate domestic spending. Tour operators, retailers, and wedding halls have been cashing in ever since.

However, there are shifting perspectives about holiday economy. Many people, including some economists, think positively about holiday economy. They believe that tourism-based holiday economy has increased consumption and helped to spur the domestic demands. While others, who worry about the negative effect of holiday economy, argue that holiday economy do more harm than good. For example, during the extended holiday, scenic spots are overloaded with tourists, and it not only spoils the relaxing mood of the tourists, but also overburdens the tourist attractions.

In my opinion, both sides are reasonable. We should take good advantages of the holiday to develop economy while trying to tackle the problems existed with practical measures. Only in this way can we not only enjoy the pleasure golden week endows us, but also promote the development of holiday economy soundly.

Tony and Bob are close friends. They are both the same age of seventeen. On the evening of July 12, 20xx, they were taking a walk, when they suddenly found two young men were striking a heavy blow at a tax driver. They went up to help the driver get away from the trouble. The two turned to them and gave them a good beating as well. They were wounded severely. What the two friends did should be highly praised for their braveness. However, I think we should at first call the police for help in time when we meet with an accident, because we are too young to face a fierce struggle.

The mid-autumn festival has all interesting history. long ago in one of thedynasties of china there was a king who was very cruel to the people and did notmanage the country well.

the people were so angry that some brave ones suggestedkilling the king. so they wrote notes telling about the meeting place and timeand put them into cakes. on the 15th day of the 8th month every person was told to buy the cakes. when they ate them they discoveredthe notes. so they gathered together to make a sudden attack on the king. fromthen on the chinese people celebrate on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month andeat "moon cakes" in memory of that important event. When the mid-autumnfestival is near, shop windows are beautifully decorated. many "moon cakes" aredisplayed for people to buy. people send presents such aswine, fruits and "mooncakes" to their friends and relatives. in the evening of the day, they have afeast. after the feast, they go out to the garden to look at the moon. thechildren run and laugh on the streets. It is believed that the moon is at herbrightest on this night. many poems have been written about it, and poets arenever tired of reading and writing such poems. in chinese literature, the moonof the mid autumn festival has been compared to a looking-glass, a jade rabbit, and so on.

Back in 1986, during my last year of high school, there was a radio trivia contest to win tickets to a concert. I didnt have much money, but I really wanted to go see this particular group, so I sat myself beside the radio one Monday morning, phone in hand, and waited. Now, my head has always been overflowing with completely useless information probably more so at that time in my life so I knew I stood just as good a chance as anybody else. Finally, they asked the question: What was David Bowies theatrical rock-star persona backed by the Spiders from Mars? I dialed as quickly as I could, but I was not the first, and so didnt win the tickets. For three more mornings, I did the same, each time knowing the answer, but failing to be the first to call. On that Friday, however, the question was much harder: Whose band did Canadian singer Gowan borrow for the recording of his Strange Animal LP? This time I won the tickets.

I was proud of my accomplishment, elated by that vindication of the sheer WidTh and breadth of the mostly impractical data stogged tight into my brain. It seems a little foolish in retrospect, but the accumulation of knowledge was for me the most distinguishing facet of my self-identity.

Back then, information was far less transitory. I remember reading and studying endlessly, trying to retain every nugget of information I could, whether it was useful or not. Now, I have become lazy. When a question is asked and I dont know the response, a quick search on the Net will generally take me directly to the right information. The question answered, the details then drop away from my mind, and I usually forget it completely. I suspect most people do this nowadays, relying upon the Net far more than memory. When someone dials a friend from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, are they really choosing their most knowledgeable friend, or simply the fastest with Google? Who would you phone?

With the steady growth of people’s living standard, I’m mournful to see that more and more species is on the way to extinction, together with the rise of people’s illegal hunting in the last four decades.

From the result of a recent survey, we can learn that the frequency of illegal hunting has increased rapidly since the market of animal product is hot. As a consequence, there are nearly 40 kinds of animals dying out each year, compared with less than five kinds in 1963. This will exert negative influence on our ecosystem and diversity of creatures. In this way, a great number of animals may not be seen by our descendants, even by ourselves.

The statistics lead me to convince that illegal hunting is closely bound with the extinction of species. From my point of view, any government which is blind to this issue will pay a heavy cost. Therefore, strong measures should be taken to prevent people from hunting illegally and relevant laws should be passed immediately.

It’ high time that we should attach great importance to the balance of our ecosystem. Let’s take action right now!

When the harvest moon rises on October 31, little hobgoblins, spooky ghosts, ghoulish witches and gremlins — their young faces hidden behind grotesque masks — will go forth to frighten friends and neighbors and to threaten them with "Trick or Treat ".

Halloween (AII Hallows Eve) as the name implies, is a nighttime holiday, the one night in the year when the child‘s world turns to pure fantasy. Children take all the lead parts while parents and other adults play the supporting roles. Encouraged by teachers and merchants and the remembrance of the good time they had the earlier year, children (from 3 to 11 years old) start preparing their costumes and Halloween decorations weeks ahead. Although parents help the children very much prepare the costumes, on Halloween they must pretend to be frightened by the masked visions that suddenly appear. There will be little witches in long black dresses with tall-pointed hats and magic broomsticks to carry them over the rooftops — to a neighbor‘s house in the next block. Ghosts in sheets run with tell-tale sneakers and half socks showing; and terrible pirates with skull and cross-bones painted on their three-cornered hats. Some carry jack-o‘-lanterns but all carry bags or UNICEF boxes marked "Trick or Treat", which fill up very fast.

Teenagers have their fun playing tricks that sometimes get rather rough. They throw eggs or tomatoes at passing motorists , mark up windows and windshields with hard-to-erase candle wax, roll pumpkins down long hills, carry away porch furniture and garbage can covers, engrave graffiti on fences, or do whatever bad things occur to them as they go around looking for ways to "let off steam". Police officers are alert but they only arrest those caught doing real damage. In most communities there are school dances or block parties to help redirect the energies of the youthful pranksters. Business firrms offer prizes for the best costumes and recreation directors help plan the party, but th
