Reasons for Choosing the Title
1. I acquired a strong interest in taboo use during the course of linguistics lectured by Mrs. Wang.
2. Taboo exist in all the nations in the world, and is a common human culture phenomenon. Today international communication is more often than before, we can’t avoid running into language taboo when communicate with others in politics, economic, religion and so on.
3. After reading a lot of comments and reviews on this theme, gradually, and I found some points which I would like to study.
General Introduction of the Research on This Title at Home and Abroad
There have been a lot of ancient and present studies on taboo at home and abroad. But the studies of language will never be possibly exhausted. It is the same situation with taboo, which has a history as long as language itself and which reflects the most attractive and mysterious aspect of language by its connection with the magic. Every nation has its own criterion of what is beautiful. Things considered beauty in one nation might not turn out to be so or even turning out to be ugliness in other nations. Most of taboos just fall into this category of things. So it is of great necessity, for the sake of inter-cultural communication.

Cultivating the individual’s moral character is valued in Chinese taboo, which is aimed to reach a harmonious state of social relationships. English taboo emphasizes euphemisms. Main Ideas of My thesis
My thesis aims at study linguistic taboo in intercultural communication .In chapter one is a general introduction of linguistic taboo. In chapter two, on the basis of a statement of the definition, sources, features and functions of linguistic taboo, suggestions putting the study in specific contexts. In chapter three, puts linguistic taboo in intercultural communication. In intercultural communication, because linguistic taboo and politeness are culture-specific,linguistic and cultural transfers concerning linguistic taboo may lead to pragmatic failure at various levels,which reduces the effectiveness of the communication. Based on the statement that communication and context are constrained by culturally set rules, especially rules concerning politeness,points out that, due to cultural differences,habits and ethnocentrism,participants from different cultures tend to abide by different politeness principles in intercultural communication. The change of linguistic taboo as human society evolves according to the relati
onship between language use and social development, and the relationship of linguistic and social rules. In chapter four, puts forward some suggestions for FLT and intercultural communication based on the previous three chapters.
Breakthrough Points of My Thesis
Firstly, English taboo is a highly conscious act of linguistic choices and involves various linguistic devices for its realization at different levels of linguistic structure. Secondly, use the principle of politeness in intercultural communication, dynamic analysis of linguistic taboo. Thirdly, give some suggestions on FLT (foreign language teaching) and intercultural communication.

Significance of My Research
This thesis intends to study linguistic taboo in Intercultural communication dynamically from the perspective of politeness using the theory of context to contribute to reducing miscommunications and conflicts in intercultural communication, to improving teachers and students’ awareness of intercultural communication in FLT(foreign language teaching) and to developing students’ Intercultural communicative competence to meet the rapid development of the technology of information and transportation.
Feasibility or the Foundation of My Research
Firstly, as an English major, in my point of view my basic knowledge on linguistics and my personal interest in linguistics give me a big support for my writing thesis. I have confidence in myself, which I think is the top importance factor to write on.
Secondly, people have done various studies on taboo, they promoted their different ideas, such as the source of taboo, the reason which caused taboo’s appearance, and some rules must be obeyed in intercultural communication and so on. Under the basis of these studies, this research has feasibility in the respect of the research theory in documents.

In order to fulfill my research objective, I designs the analytical procedures as follows:
Step 1: download many related thesis to my topic
Step 2: read various material s about the description of taboo, intercultural, communication and find the theory needed.
Step3: under the guidance of Mrs. Wang I write the outline
Step 4: use the concept of taboo ,the features of taboo and other theories to support my thesis
Step 5: analyze the significance of my research in the intercultural communication and FLT
