英語(yǔ)雅思作文1
St can education bring us? Is “high mark” the real destiny of education? As researchers and scholars are investigating this subject, the accurate definition of education begins to have slight difference from what was in people‘s mind before. Education, the bridge between teachers and students, the mediator between individual and society, means more than knowledge transmit, but being a wholly developed person in the society.
First, education brings us basic knowledge and skill to survive. From primary school on,students learn subjects like Maths,Physics,English,or in other words, academic subjects to gain the initial knowledge of the nature and world, which are extremely useful for our future career. Upon this, students also learn skills like sewing, cooking, and mending bicycles, which help them a lot in their future family life. To this extend, education provided us with fundamental concepts of living.
Second, education can cultivate our sentiment. Apart from academic subjects, art subjects such as music and art seems more interesting toward students. From these subjects, one can enjoy the pleasure of listening to music, try to guess a composer‘s emotion when writing a music chapter,or understand the meaning of a piece of drawing, from which process they themselves are edified and assimilated, and finally have their own clear opinion on what is beauty.
Third, education makes an individual adapted to the society. Being innocent and naive, young people always find it hard to immerge into the complicated environment, and feel frustrated. Through education like communication skills, students may know the essence of getting on with other people. This kind of education influences our personality and views everyone as a whole individual in the big family of society.
Above all, knowledge, emotion, and personality form the most important part of the content of education. The aim of education is to teach a per son become a completely developed individual.

The discussion about how watching television programmes could impact on children has heated up recently. Some people are against this activity, whereas others are for it. As far as I am concerned, the advantages of watching TV undoubtedly outweigh its disadvantages.
There are two reasons why some people claim it is detrimental for children to watch television every day. First, it is widely acknowledged that too much screentime does harm to children’s eyesight.
Scientific studies suggest that children should not be glued to television. Additionally, children’s psychological health might be impaired due to exposure to unsuitable contents. For example, violence and drug abuse are often shown in some films. Children who lack discipline or close supervision easily become addicted to the virtual world and might adopt an impractical outlook upon life, which has an adverse influence on their well-being.
However, watching television in face can be informative and educational for children. To begin with, watching news is an efficient way to know what is happening around the world.
Saying no to television is a veto on getting informed. Also, TV shows like National Geographic and Animal World satisfy their curiosity and develop their creativity.
Therefore, what matters most is being selective about what to watch and how. Last but not least, it can be quality time for both parents and children instead of a waste of time.
In conclusion, although there might be some health risks for younger generation to watch television for too long and too often, I still believe that it is a blessing rather than a curse; cartoons, films and a large number of programmes do enrich their life in many ways.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.Write about the following topic:
The earth is being filled with waste material such as plastic bags and other rubbish. Is this really happening? What are some solutions to this problem?
Gives reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.Write at least 250 words.
model answer:
Over the past few decades, the increasing amount of industrial wastes and household garbage has become a major problem in many countries. People have questioned what caused this problem and what can be done to improve the situation. In my opinion, two of the most critical causes of this waste material problem are the increased consumption and a shortage of space for landfill.
To begin with, modern lifestyle has contributed greatly to the increasing amount of waste and garbage we produce everyday. In other words, we have turned into a materialistic and mass-consumption society where we use more and throw away more than ever before. Moreover, countries are running out of space to store garbage and waste material. In fact, securing land for waste disposal raises controversies in many countries.
To solve this intractable problem, every citizen needs to participate in producing less garbage. For example, we can bring our own personal shopping bags instead of using plastic bags provided by stores and shops. Besides, the government can enforce stricter laws on companies to use biodegradable packaging or use recycled material. Indeed, this alone can eliminate much of the waste which is sent to at land fills. Companies can also contribute by developing new raw material which is recyclable and will ultimately lead to less garbage. One good example of this is that tire companies develop new tires for cars which are not made of rubber but of new biodegradable material.
As discussed above, individuals, business and the government can share the responsibility to reduce the amount of waste material and to save the earth. I hope that in the future our offspring will be better off with the well-preserved environment.

The summary of a survey on adult education is presented in the 2 charts. The bar chart summarizes the factors that caused adults to continue their education, while the pie chart shows the public opinion regarding the funding of adult education.
According to the bar chart, 40% of the respondents mentioned “interest in the subject” as the reason they decided to go back to school. This factor was followed closely by the aim to gain qualification at 38%. On the other hand, only 9% of the survey participants said that they went to school in order to meet more people. This is the least popular reason among the 7 given.
Among all the people surveyed regarding the funding, 40% of them felt that this adult education should be the responsibility of the individual. Although 35% of them thought that the employers should lend the helping hand, only 25% agreed that the taxpayers should share the burden.
In summary, the survey showed a mixed opinion regarding the reasons and the funding for adults education.

Some people believe that students who want to go to university after graduation from high school should have about one year’s time to get a job to obtain work experience or have a travel to enlarge their vision. Do you agree or disagree? What is your opinion?
High school students who intend to study at university should attend tertiary education after graduation. To spend one year’s time doing a job to acquire work experience or to travel for broadening one’s vision is, to my mind, a waste of time and energy.
First, university education is the continuation of high school education for those students who want to pursue their learning at an advanced level. A break of one year from academic study will probably weaken one’s memory of what has been learned, especially for those who will study such theoretical subjects as mathematics, physics or chemistry. Besides, many nations have established one examination that all students must pass to qualify for admission to a university. For example, in China there is a college entrance examination. Anyone who fails in the examination will be denied of admission into a university. Furthermore, one year’s work or travel does not help students much in their academic studies at university because it is unpredictable for one’s work experience to be integrated into one’s studies of specific subjects, to say nothing of traveling experience. Even if some subjects, such as MBA, require students to have work experience, one year’s work experience, however, is not sufficient to meet the requirements of three or five years, and one’s work experience should, after all, be related to management. To conclude, I would rather suggest that university’s curriculum allow the integration of academic study with practical training for the compensation for students’ lack of work experience.

Computer, the most exciting and significant invention in 20 century, will reshape our lives and our a result, some people proclaim that computers should be involved into our classroom, and replace the roles of human cannot agree with their point of view.w.
Admittedly,as the useful tools, computers can become the optimum assistants for human teachers in the beginning, vivid pictures shown on screen can motivate students’interest and curiosity combination of computers and Internet can provide children the abundant computers enjoy considerable merits, they cannot compare with human teachers for two main reasons.ns.
Among countless factors which influence my inclination, there is a most conspicuous one:computers are not as qualified as human teachers in academic we all know, students can get the final result of a mathematic question under the help of computers, however, they are still confused on the whole computing contrast, our human teachers’performance is much better in those not only can teach students how to analyze and compute the question, but also can remind them what are the possible errors that they may teachers are more adequate than computers in academic aspect.ect.
The second advantage of human teachers is they can guide students to deal with some psychological problems that they meet in China, sometimes, teachers even burden many responsibilities that students’parents example,as for the student with rebellious spirit, the important duty for teachers is to prevent the student from campus violence, even cannot do that.at.
In summary, from what has been discussed above,we may safely arrive at the conclusion that the positions of human teachers are unshakable, and computers cannot take the places of them.
In this IT age, computers are widely used in the classroom in order to enrich the methods of phenomenon gives some the illusion that the thing teaching students is no longer the teacher but a disagree with this opinion.n.
As another machines, computer doesn’t enable to control computers are capable of learning from their mistakes and improving on their performance, they need details instructions from human being in order to be able to can never,as it were lead independent lives,no mention teaching case a computer lacks the control of a teacher, there is no difference between a computer and waste.te.
Not only this, but computers, unlike a teacher, can’t solve a variety of new is developing in today’s society, including example,a student suddenly asks a creative question that the computer isn’t programmed for,it can do nothing, while teacher can explain clearly though abundant teaching experience.e.
Last but not least, the computer can’t communicate with students from as an eyesight or gesture of teacher can transfer his or her idea and feeling to this way, students can feel more human touch in the comparison, the computer is too dry and dusty to understand.nd.
All in all,no matter how nice a computer is,it can’t take the place of course,I don’t mean that computer is contrary,I believe it will become the most powerful assistants to teacher in further.r.

Happiness is considered very important in life. Why is it difficult to define? What factors are important in achieving happiness?
lt is no doubt true that the majority of people would like tobe happy in their lives. While the personal nature of happiness makes it difficult to describe, there do seem to besome common needs that we all share with regard to experiencing or achieving happiness.
Happiness is difficult to define because it means something different to each individual person. Nobody can fully understand or experience another person's feelings, and we all have our own particular passions from which we take pleasure. Some people, for example, derive a sense of satisfaction from earning money or achieving success, whereas for others, health and family are much more important. At the same time, a range of other feelings, from excitement to peacefulness, may be associated with the idea of happiness, and the same person may therefore feel happy in a variety of different ways.
Although it seems almost impossible to give a precise definition of happiness, most people would agree that there are some basic preconditions to achieving it. Firstly, it is hardfor a person to be happy if he or she does not have a safe place to live and enough food to eat. Our basic survival needs must surely be met before we can lead a pleasant life.Secondly, the greatest joy in life is usually found in shared experiences with family and friends, and it is rare to find a person who is content to live in complete isolation. Other key factors could be individual freedom and a sense of purpose in life.
ln conclusion, happiness is difficult to define because it is particular to each individual, but l believe that our basic needs for shelter, food and company need to be fulfilled before we can experience it.

One of the most important social developments that helped to make possible a shift in thinking about the role of public education was the effect of the baby boom of the 1950’s and 1960’s on the schools. In the 1920’s, but especially in the Depression conditions of the 1930’s, the United States experienced a declining birth rate --- every thousand women aged fifteen to forty-four gave birth to about 118 live children in 1920, 89.2 in 1930, 75.8 in 1936, and 80 in 1940. With the growing prosperity brought on by the Second World War and the economic boom that followed it young people married and established households earlier and began to raise larger families than had their predecessors during the Depression. Birth rates rose to 102 per thousand in 1946,106.2 in 1950, and 118 in 1955. Although economics was probably the most important determinant, it is not the only explanation for the baby boom. The increased value placed on the idea of the family also helps to explain this rise in birth rates. The baby boomers began streaming into the first grade by the mid 1940’s and became a flood by 1950. The public school system suddenly found itself overtaxed. While the number of schoolchildren rose because of wartime and postwar conditions, these same conditions made the schools even less prepared to cope with the
food. The wartime economy meant that few new schools were built between 1940 and 1945. Moreover, during the war and in the boom times that followed, large numbers of teachers left their profession for better- paying jobs elsewhere in the economy.
Therefore in the 1950’s and 1960’s, the baby boom hit an antiquated and inadequate school system. Consequently, the “ custodial rhetoric” of the 1930’s and early 1940’s no longer made sense that is, keeping youths aged sixteen and older out of the labor market by keeping them in school could no longer be a high priority for an institution unable to find space and staff to teach younger children aged five to sixteen. With the baby boom, the focus of educators and of laymen interested in education inevitably turned toward the lower grades and back to basic academic skills and discipline. The system no longer had much interest in offering nontraditional, new, and extra services to older youths.

There are those who opine that pictures and videos clips in news coverage can more precisely inform individuals of events, while the opposing stance is that such information is unreliable. This essay will initially analyse the two ideas, followed by a presentation of my perspective, which is that visual sources in news reports are trustable, but people should still be critical.
It is justified that visual images can assist people to understand news stories with greater precision. This is mainly because these resources can help audiences to interpret events in a straightforward fashion. Exposure to photographs and videos makes it easier for readers and viewers to know what the event was, where it occurred and who were involved. With written articles, some expressions, including slang may prevent their comprehension. Additionally, it is hard to edit pictures and videos. In other words, what people see from visual images is the truth, but journalists can omit vital details or use exaggeration when writing news stories.
However, it is also true that photographs and videos in news reports are undependable. To begin with, these images may be fabricated due to different purposes. People may be remunerated to say something untrue and act out stories made up by journalists. Another point is that photos and videos can be heavily edited with the invention of advanced technological software. This means that even if journalists record events on the spot, photos and videos can be manipulated before being published.
In conclusion, I believe that both sides of the argument are reasonable. On balance, my firm conviction is that people can rely on visual images to appreciate news reports but should be cautious. After all, journalists are those who have been trained to strictly adhere to professional ethics and conduct, presenting facts with objectivity. Nevertheless, I feel that some may be biased, discriminatory and xenophobic, and their visual materials are not reliable. Thus, it is suggested that people do more research before drawing conclusions.

Which kind of courses should universities provide: theoretical knowledge or practical training? Some people prefer the later one and assert that the practical training can benefit our society. Personally, I strongly disagree with their point of view for three reasons.
Among countless factors which influence my propensity, there is a most conspicuous one: practical experience should be accumulated in society, not in universities. I can think of no better illustration than the saying: “society is another kind of university”.Literarily, in society people can study practical knowledge as well as studying theoretical knowledge in universities. Besides, campus is full of academic atmosphere, and there is Idontknowlly different from the circumstance in society. Thus, it is difficult for students to accumulate the real practical experience in campus.
The second aspect relates to the importance of theoretical knowledge. Apparently, it would seem that some academic subjects, such as mathematics or sociology, cannot benefit companies or society directly. In fact, however, they are the basis of practical subjects, such as management or finance. For example, it is almost impossible to talk of economics without mentioning the fundamental roles played by statistics and mathematics.
Furthermore, universities are where theoretical knowledge is handed down from generation to generation. As we know, form Oxford University to Yale University, from Beijing University to MIT, universities congregate a lot of preeminent scholars and professors whose main jobs are the academic research. They are responsible to impart the academic knowledge to the young generation in case of they are faded from our memory.
In summary, from what has been discussed above, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that the theoretical courses are not as obsolete, profitless and unimportant as some people believed. And our universities should be responsible to provide the theoretical knowledge

The discussion about whether English becoming a global language has brought us more benefits than risks is a very controversial one. People can hardly reach a consensus on this issue. Before presenting my view, I would like to explore both sides of the argument.
It is very clear that English as a global language has brought us enormous benefits in all aspects of society, which has greatly promoted our economic development. To begin with, as a tool of cross-cultural communication, English promotes mutual understanding and friendship, removing prejudice and h123lity. It is no exaggeration to say that English helps maintain the world peace. Moreover, English offers us a good opportunity to learn from developed countries. For instance, China, a developing country, is in great need of advanced knowledge and technology. English as a global language removes the language barriers for us, so that we can introduce foreign experts to our country more conveniently
However, it can not be denied that English also exerts a negative influence on our human civilization. Since English becomes a dominant language, a large number of indigenous languages are on the verge of extinction, which poses potential risks to the cultural diversity. Just imagine, if everyone in the world looks the same, speaks the same, and thinks the same, our world will become a homogenous one. How terrible it is! It is widely accepted that language is the vehicle of culture, so killing language equals killing culture. In doing so, we erase whole histories and bury entire stories, the richness of which the world loses forever.
Obviously, English like anything else, has more than one face. Its advantages should never keep us from their drawbacks. From my perspective, English and other languages can go side by side with each other, each shinning more brilliantly in the other’s company.

Some people think that university should not provide theoretical knowledge, but to give practical training that is beneficial to society.
Do you agree or disagree?
The current hot issues concerning higher education include the one of whether university should provide theoretical knowledge or practical training. In my opinion, this issue is closely related to the different aims of different universities and the needs of the economic development of the respective country.
As we know, university education gives a student a better appreciation of such fields as art, literature, history, science, and human relations.
Therefore, it is necessary for the university to provide theoretical knowledge for those students who intend to receive liberal education.
Most universities also have professional colleges that prepare students for careers, such as teachers colleges, agricultural or dental colleges.
These colleges, apart from offering some liberal arts courses, usually allocate a certain period of time for professional training. For example, a student at teachers college usually takes a field training at a high school as a student teacher for two or three months.
Another important factor on this issue is the needs of the economic development of a respective county. For instance, in China, a great number of advanced professional personnel are needed to keep the pace with the rapid economic development. Therefore, cooperative education that combines classroom studies with practical work experience is more appropriate an education China needs at the present time.

This response addresses the requirements of the task and selects relevant material to describe. Key features and an overview are presented, although clearer highlighting, more support and a more comprehensive overview would be needed to reach a higher band. Information is well-organised and there is a clear overall progression in the response. There is some effective use of cohesive devices, but only limited use of reference and substitution. The range of vocabulary is not wide, but it is adequate for the task.
Control of word form and spelling is consistentlygood, although there are some clumsy noun phrases that indicatelimited flexibility. The candidate attempts to use a mix of simple and complex sentences, but control is variable and grammatical errors or omissionsare quite intrusive at times. Figures are poorly integrated into sentences and indicate evident limitations.

This diagram shows the different stages in the process of making a purchase with a credit card. We can see that it is a complex transaction with no fewer than five different parties involved and there are seven different steps until the merchant receives payment.
The first step is that the customer offers to pay for the goods by credit card. At that point, the merchant has to request for the payment to be authorised by the credit card organisation, which must also request authorisation in turn from the consumer’s bank. Once that authorisation has been received, the merchant can then release the goods to the customer.
The merchant, however, does not receive the money for the transaction until it has paid a fee to the credit card organisation. After that has been paid, the consumer’s issuing bank will transfer the money for the transaction to the merchant’s own bank, which will then credit the merchant’s bank account with the amount of the purchase less the credit card fee.
