The film is adapted from Mo Yan's 1986 novel of the same name. Mo Yan said that winning is a surprise for him.

　　今天爸爸在同事郭老師那里借了幾張光盤準備給我復制下來給我看、聽。從上三年級開始就要上英語課了，我非常喜歡上英語課。但是，我沒有英語的磁帶，我們的老師叫我們用磁帶聽，邊聽邊讀，有的時候老師叫我們聽了要爸爸媽媽簽字�，F(xiàn)在有了這些光盤就可以更好地學習我所喜愛的英語了。
