英語作文 篇1

  Save Water

Water is very important for us. We must drink water everyday. We can’t live without water. Water is everywhere around us. At home, we use water to wash clothes, to wash dishes, to cook rice, to clean the flat, to have showers, to make drinks, to clean our teeth, to have a bath and so on. At work, people use water to put out fires, to grow vegetables, to make things in factories and so on. We also can swim in the sea. Water is important for us, isn’t it?

A Brief Introduction to the University

  Distinguished guests,

Welcome to our university. Before you start to look around, allow me to give you a brief account of the school.

Founded in 1927, our university is one of this city’s earliest universities of liberal arts. It is staffed with an excellent faculty, and has a total enrollment of over 10,000 students. In the past years, it has turned out numerous well-qualified students and found its graduates active in professions of all walks of life.

Since its establishment, the university has always steered itself toward the objective that its students have an overall healthy development. Not only does it provide the students with basic academic courses, but it manages to expose them to the up-to-date knowledge. Besides, students are free to participate in colorful campus activities and social practice, which are intended for broadening their mind and developing their potential talent.

Currently, both our faculty and students are making every effort to improve the quality of our education in the direction of a first-rate university. Thank you.

英語作文 篇3

Scene I, I select a course of Western Economics。 I open my textbook。 It's a work of a famous American economist, written in English。 My teacher is speaking in a high mood, also in English。

Scene II, I select a lesson of Chinese literature。 I open my textbook only to find all the famous people of China labeled with their names in letters。 Furthermore, there is not a single Chinese character in the book and my teacher is reciting a poem of Tang Dynasty in English。

Now, given the question "Do you agree that in Chinese higher education, textbooks should be written in English and the language used in class should also be English?" Can you answer it just by "yes" or "no" simply?

As is known to all, English is gaining an increasingly important position in today's China。 Even kids in kindergarten have begun to learn simple words。 That's a good phenomenon, for English is essential nowadays。 As we college students are concerned, one benefit of learning this language is that we can read the original works directly。 This is because even the most excellent translator is no more than a person, who can never totally a void adding his own opinion to the original。 Therefore, the Chinese versions we read usually differ from the original ones, and in some cases the two versions are even opposite in meaning。Learning English provides us with a possible tool to solve this problem as we master the writer's language, we can explore his thoughts on our own。

Then, can we just say "yes" to the question given above?Just imagine the second scene at the beginning, will you agree to replace all our books with their English version? That's more than a joke。

English does help us read English original works, but Chinese helps us learn a true China。 Chinese characters are an inseparable part of Chinese culture。 Only by characters can Chinese literature send off its brilliance。 Some modern translators have tried to translate classical Chinese literature into English。 I was unlucky enough to have heard a so called "poem" of Li Bai。 I still doubt even now whether it is a poem of Li or just a prose created by the translator himself。 I want to cry, for Li Bai, for Chinese literature and also for the ignorant "translator"。 Maybe, he just wanted to introduce Chinese culture to the whole world, but what he has done is just killing it。 To learn a country's culture, especially its classical culture, the first thing is to learn its language。 Opinions through translators sometimes can be helpful, but sometimes, they can be fatally misleading。 Since we are Chinese, why do we give up our mother tongue and learn our own culture through a foreign language? If so, several years later, not only the foreigners but we ourselves will be unable to understand our culture。 By that day, Chinese culture will die, China will die, and we will just be a group of "foreigners" with dark eyes and yellow skin。

By now, I think I have found the answer to the question。We had better use the English original works when we learn courses like western economics and western philosophy。 As for the Chinese culture or the Chinese history, we should stick to our own language。

i remember seeing harry that first evening. he wasnt much more than a thin, anious kid then. he was all dressed up and i knew he was meeting his girl and that they would be married twenty minutes after she arrived.

well, the passengers came up and i had to get busy. i didnt look toward the stairs again until nearly time for the 9:18 and i was very surprised to see that the young fellow was still there.she didnt come on the 9:18 either, nor on the 9:40, and when the passengers from the 10:02 had all arrived and left, harry was looking pretty desperate. pretty soon he came close to my window so i called out and asked him what she looked like.

"shes small and dark," he said, "and nineteen years old and very neat in the way she walks. she has a face," he said, thinking a minute, "that has lots of spirit. i mean she can get mad but she never stays mad for long, and her eyebrows come to a little point in the middle. shes got a brown fur, but maybe she isnt wearing it."i couldnt remember seeing anybody like that.

he showed me the telegram hed received: arrive thursday. meet me station. love love love love. may. it was from omaha, nebraska."well," i finally said, "why dont you phone to your home? shes probably called there if she got in ahead of you."

he gave me a sick look. "ive only been in town two days. we were going to meet and then drive down south where ive got a job. she hasnt any address for me." he touched the telegram.

when i came on duty the net day he was still there and came over as soon as he saw me.

"did she work anywhere?" i asked.

he nodded. "she was a typist. i telegraphed her former boss. all they know is that she left her job to get married."

harry met every train for the net three or four days. of course, the railroad lines made a routine checkup and the police looked into the case. but nobody was any real help. i could see that they all figured that may had simply played a trick on him. but i never believed that, somehow.

one day, after about two weeks, harry and i were talking and i told him about my theory. "if youll just wait long enough," i said, "youll see her coming up those stairs some day." he turned and looked at the stairs as though he had never seen them before.

the net day when i came to work harry was behind the counter of tonys magazine stand. he looked at me rather sheepishly and said, "well, i had to get a job somewhere, didnt i?"

so he began to work as a clerk for tony. we never spoke of may anymore and neither of us ever mentioned my theory. but i noticed that harry always saw every person who came up the stairs.

toward the end of the year tony was killed in some argument over gambling, and tonys widow left harry in complete charge of the magazine stand. and when she got married again some time later, harry bought the stand from her. he borrowed money and installed a soda fountain and pretty soon he had a very nice little business.

then came yesterday. i heard a cry and a lot of things falling. the cry was from harry and the things falling were a lot of dolls and other things which he had upset while he was jumping over the counter. he ran across and grabbed a girl not ten feet from my window. she was small and dark and her eyebrows came to a little point in the middle.

for a while they just hung there to each other laughing and crying and saying things without meaning. shed say a few words like, "it was the bus station i meant" and hed kiss her speechless and tell her the many things he had done to find her. what apparently had happened three years before was that may had come by bus, not by train, and in her telegram she meant "bus station," not "railroad station." she had waited at the bus station for days and had spent all her money trying to find harry. finally she got a job typing.

"what?" said harry. "have you been working in town? all the time?"

  she nodded.

"well, heavens. didnt you ever come down here to the station?" he pointed across to his magazine stand. "ive been there all the time. i own it. ive watched everybody that came up the stairs."

she began to look a little pale. pretty soon she looked over at the stairs and said in a weak voice, "i never came up the stairs before. you see, i went out of town yesterday on a short business trip. oh, harry!" then she threw her arms around his neck and really began to cry.

after a minute she backed away and pointed very stiffly toward the north end of the station. "harry, for three years, for three solid years, ive been right over there working right in this very station, typing, in the office of the stationmaster."

Obviously, some people like saving money, while there are others are inclined to spend their future money. They may spend too much on foods, clothes and entertainment; therefore, their expenses often are over their wages. This act brings about risk of getting into debt.

  很顯然,有些人喜歡存錢,而有些人則喜歡提前消費。他們可能會花太多錢在食物,衣服和娛樂上;因此,他們的消費總是高于他們的工資。這種行為可能會帶來負(fù)債的危機(jī)。
