The frequent occurrence of B. alicastrum near ruins is explained by its competitive advantage on shallow limestone soils coupled with a continual input of bat-dispersed seed. Populations of the tree at Tikal are then compared with other naturally occurring populations as an example of how a detailed ecological analysis may furnish valuable insight into the historical use of a plant species. The Tikal populations are shown to be atypical in terms of phenology, productivity and breeding systems, suggesting that some form of artificial selection may have been practiced by the Maya.

last time on teachers’ day my sister and i had free tickets to go there, and we took two small children with us. when we got there were so many people there that we were very careful not to let the children get lost. there were free balloons given to small kids. there were many different amusement rides, but at all the rides there were long lines of people. therefore, we did not get many rides. our two small companions enjoyed the merry-go-round which is a round turning platform that has wooden horses on it. they did not like the airplane ride so much, because the speed and high elevation of the plane scared them. we high a whole afternoon there.
by the time we got home, we were a little tired, but we felt like happy small children again.

It was Saturday， just before May Day. My classmates and I went to the park nearby， we didn't go there for amusement but took part in voluntary labor.
We got there at 9：00. We were pided into three groups and then began working. The students in Group One planted trees and watered flowers. The task for Group Two was collecting the litter left about by tourists and cleaning the benches. The group I was in got to the Children's Play ground and wiped all the equipment clean. We worked very hard. At 11：00， when all the work was finished up， all my classmates met again. Although everyone was in a sweat， yet we felt happy because we had done good job.

this graph tells us the changes in the life epectancy and infant mortality in developing countries between 1960 and 1990. we can see that the life epectancy in 1960 was about 40 years whereas in 1990, it increased to about 60 years. in the meantime, the infant mortality rate dropped from 20off00 to 10off00.
there are many reasons for these changes. first, thanks to the advances in science and medicine, people are receiving better health care services than they used to. secondly, with the development of economy, people are better off today.
