After months of reviewing the outlook for the company in the wake of this economic downturn, I see no other alternative than to resign my position as chief financial officer with HHH （company）。 Needleto say, after 12 years of service, this decision was not an easy one.
Please make my resignation effective January 31, which is the end of my scheduled vacation. I will turn over all company books and settle my accounts prior to that date.
I look back on the experience gained and the friends made with much regard. My association with HHH has been a valued part of my life.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day falls on the twenty-fifth of December. It is a very happy day for many boys and girls. Before the term ends in some schools, the children act a nativity or “birth” play, showing how Jesus was born in a stable.
On the twenty-fourth of December, all children are very excited. Usually they are sent to bed early so that their parents can get the presents ready. The younger children think that Father Christmas will come down the chimney or fireplace, so they hang up a sock for him to put presents in. The greedy ones even hang up a pillow-case or a sack to try to get more presents. Later that night, father or mother will put presents in the sock, and leave others at the side of the bed.
On Christmas morning, the children wake up very early. Some even turn on the light at two o'clock, and most of them are awake by six o'clock, and the young ones play while the dinner is prepared. At about one o'clock in the afternoon, the Christmas dinner is brought in. The turkey or chicken is quickly eaten. Children search in their Christmas pudding for new coins which are hidden in it. The rest of the day is full of games and eating until the happiest of all Christmas holidays comes to an end.

my plan is to set off net weekend, when the summer vacation officially begins. the first stop is kunming, the world-renowned city for its beauty and mild temperature. well get there by train and stay there for 2 days, and then well head for jinggangshan, a former revolutionary base as well as a natural beauty spot. after a 3-day visit there, we will take a long-distance coach to a nearby port city by the changjiang river and board a downstream ship to shanghai, so that we can enjoy the great scenery alongside the third longest river in the world. as everybody knows, shanghai is the busiest and fastest developing city in china. id like to have a look at its prosperity, so the stay there will be about half a week. and a famous chinese saying goes, "just as there is paradise in heaven, there are suzhou and hangzhou on earth ", so a 4-day visit to these two cities near shanghai is must. all together, our trip will last about three weeks.
i only epect that my travel-mate could split the epenses with me and talk with me in beautiful english, and i would be an ecellent guide for her since i major in tourist guiding.

When prescriptions for post-heart-attack care got refilled and the same drugs suddenly came in different shapes or colors, patients were significantly more likely to stop taking their meds.
That's the finding from a study involving more than 11,000 patients that appears in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Even when different looking pills contained the exact same active ingredient, a change in color boosted the odds that patients would stop taking their heart medication by 34 percent.
A change in shape jumped the chance that patients would cease their meds by 66 percent.
There's no legal requirement to make generic and brand-name drugs appear alike.
But the study's authors say that the Food and Drug Administration should consider making consistent appearance the standard, as such uniformity would likely result in more patients adhering to their medication regimens.
For now, we're all stuck reading pharmaceutical labels.

一、追求優(yōu)美要想讓短文達到優(yōu)美的境地，最重要的是語法正確，用詞貼切。
但這遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠，還要做到以下兩點，才能使文章增色。
第一，使用較高級詞匯，并且避免重復(fù)使用同一單詞。20xx年高考題在表達"不應(yīng)該收門票"時，不少考生寫了"A park should not want/receive/accept entrance fee."三個謂語動詞屬于較低級的詞匯，用在此意義尚可，但干澀無味，也不十分準(zhǔn)確。換一種謂語"A public park should be free of charge."既能貼切地表達整體意義，又顯得句子地道、優(yōu)美。再如"公園是休閑的地方"，很多同學(xué)都寫成"A park is a place in which people can rest and be free.""be free"固然不恰當(dāng)，整句也很生硬，有逐字翻譯的感覺。如變通一下，"People need a place where they can rest and enjoy themselves."信息量增多，詞數(shù)減少，并且用了need a place，enjoy themselves，給人以妥貼、地道的美感，也給閱卷者留下交際水平高寫作能力強的印象，得分檔次隨之升高。
二、注意聯(lián)貫高考試題擬題時考慮到計分的統(tǒng)一尺度，內(nèi)容上的得分點都做了科學(xué)的安排。
近幾年的內(nèi)容得分點都有六、七個，寫全一個即可得分。但得分多少還要看語言表達水平，按不同檔次給分。由于考生比較注重對內(nèi)容得分點的理解，所以這方面誤差或遺漏不多。失分的原因往往是各個要點之間缺乏聯(lián)貫，缺少內(nèi)在的聯(lián)系。有些考生僅限于將要點一一寫出，就象翻譯句子一樣，沒有成文。
要想寫得聯(lián)貫，要做到兩點：第一， 適當(dāng)加上"粘合劑".20xx年高考書面表達中，不少考生一開始便寫"60% of the students are against the idea of entrance fees."顯得很唐突。如果加上"Opinions are divided on the question."或"Students are heatedly discussing the question."與上文就比較聯(lián)貫，過渡自然。提到相反意見時，加上"On the other hand"就很恰當(dāng)。常見的過渡詞語還有：as a result，at last，at present，in a word，in the meantime，in general，I think，等等。
第二，句子緊湊，信息量要大。有的考生，用短小的單句較多，顯得較松散。有的考生寫的句子雖然長，但有效信息量不大，顯得呆板、拖沓。要使短文聯(lián)貫就必須學(xué)會緊縮句子，用排比、遞進、平衡等等手法，或用并列句、復(fù)合句，在一句中表達較多的內(nèi)容。例如，20xx年高考題表格右欄的三行文字，三個要點僅用一句話就能表達得淋漓盡致。

三、認(rèn)真審題做題時切勿貿(mào)然動筆，應(yīng)細(xì)讀題目要求，認(rèn)真審題，對文章框架做到心中有數(shù)。
審題要明確三項內(nèi)容：首先認(rèn)清體裁。作文題可分自由式、半控制式和全控制式。高考書面表達歷來采用全控制式，亦稱指導(dǎo)性寫作（guided writing）。它的體裁、內(nèi)容和篇幅都有明確的限定。體裁有敘述文、描寫文、說明文和應(yīng)用文。應(yīng)用文包括書信、通知、日記等。無論提供材料的方式是通過文字、圖畫還是表格，要求寫的文章體裁都是唯一的.。體裁、格式、風(fēng)格是緊密聯(lián)系的，一定的體裁有特定的格式。但是，相同的體裁也可能表達的人稱、風(fēng)格和說話的口吻相異。這需要細(xì)心思考才能確定。
第二，要考慮文章的主要時態(tài)。動詞時態(tài)的錯誤是閱卷時最容易發(fā)現(xiàn)的錯誤之一。時態(tài)錯誤多是考生語言運用能力較差的顯著標(biāo)志。因此在寫作中要力求避免時態(tài)錯誤。
第三，要琢磨表達內(nèi)容的次序和短文的基本框架。英語書面表達無須插敘、倒敘，基本次序與所給提示一致即可。20xx年高考由于考生審題不慎，將書面表達寫得層次不清。有的把兩個截然不同的，又沒有可比性的觀點放在一句中表達，給人一種模糊、零亂的感覺。其實英語作文審題與漢語作文是相通的，只要有足夠的重視，遵循"慢審快寫"的原則，正確審題是不難做到的。
