Dear Addimissions Officer:
I am writing this letter to support the admission of Wenli Lee to the Harvard Business School.
I was Mr.Lee's teacher and advisor for several years between 1993 and 1995.
We have met and talked several times since.
Mr.Lee's academic credentials are truly exceptional.
He not only knows how to reason with numbers, but how to render incisive and imaginative arguments in English.
Unlike most of the students I have taught from China(about 60 over the past 20 years) Lee immersed himself in American culture.
He composed a joke as part of his first presentation analyzing a local plan.

While many of the Chinese I have taught performed excellently in class, Lee alone has composed essays and talks that met the sensibilities and tastes of American classmates.
Even more importantly he offered new ideas which they (and myself) could comprehend and even assimilate.
Lee has a deep reservoir of talent and ambition.
He has already accomplished a great deal in the face of considerable challenge.
He has worked hard bridging the cultural gulf separating thanticipate and even tame adversarial relations.
I have every confidence that he will use these considerable skills to tackle organizational problems on a larger scale.
While a student in our graduate program, Lee took a job helping recovering drug addicts in the suburban community of Harvey.
Harvey, an aging industrial suburb with an impoverished African American population, does not usually attract the interest and attention of foreign students from Asia.
Lee swam against the strong currents of racism and fear associated with minority neighborhoods.
Furthermore, he did so in a manner that added value to the community.
Lee has labored for the ABC Authority, a large public bureaucracy, and currently works as a private marketing and research firm.
This diversity of experience represents a crucial resource for Lee.
He does not simply take jobs, but weaves these experiences together into a work for understanding American institutions from the inside out.
Finally, Lee plays with Americans.
He does not hide out in Chinatown or the Chinese cultural center.
He rock climbs and sails.
He can tell hip from hoopla.
Lee is smart.
But more important he has acquired wisdom in the culture of both China and the U.S.
He wants to expand his considerable fund of wisdom and use it to provide cultural scaffolding for commercial ties between the U.S.and China.
Lee's ambitions and abilities are in sync.
He is poised and prepared to take this next step in an exciting journey.

那么選擇什么樣的人寫推薦信最合適呢?以下有三條原則可供參考：
一、 美國(guó)商學(xué)院最青睞的是那些與申請(qǐng)者有過密切關(guān)系，熟悉其領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力、組織能力或?qū)W術(shù)水平的人寫的。
推薦人必須站在客觀的立場(chǎng)上評(píng)價(jià)你，千萬不要選一個(gè)很有名卻對(duì)你并不了解的人，因?yàn)樯虒W(xué)院希望推薦人能提供具體細(xì)節(jié)。
二、 選擇真正欣賞你的人，只有這樣的人才會(huì)愿意花時(shí)間和精力為你寫出一封好信。
如果寫得潦草倉促或是充滿了敷衍套話，將使錄取委員會(huì)對(duì)你的印象大打折扣。
三、 選擇能夠說明你的關(guān)鍵品質(zhì)和獨(dú)特個(gè)性的人。

找八桿子打不著的人，反而讓人覺得你不可信。

當(dāng)然，如果有一位公司直接主管、國(guó)際有名的教授能充任你的推薦人，你申請(qǐng)學(xué)校系科的主管教授又是這位知名教授的學(xué)生，或朋友，那這樣的推薦信無疑十分有力
你應(yīng)該在計(jì)劃遞交申請(qǐng)材料的期限前三個(gè)月左右開始尋找推薦人。
選好推薦人后，接下來要做的就是和他(她)坦誠(chéng)地面談一次，向他(她)解釋清楚你需要什么樣的幫助。
告訴他(她)你想申請(qǐng)哪些學(xué)校，為什么選擇那些學(xué)校。
最好能向推薦人提供一份你的完整詳細(xì)的簡(jiǎn)歷，以方便寫推薦信。
如果你認(rèn)為推薦者應(yīng)就某幾個(gè)方面作一下重點(diǎn)描述，應(yīng)該提前準(zhǔn)備一份書面材料，列舉那些你認(rèn)為你的推薦人可以著手的地方。

許多申請(qǐng)者的推薦信都會(huì)犯一種致命錯(cuò)誤，那就是其中都充滿了"excellent"，"distinguished"， "ambitious"，"natural born leader"這樣的頂級(jí)贊美之詞，卻沒有具體的例子來支持這些"論點(diǎn)"。
這樣不僅不能使商學(xué)院增加對(duì)申請(qǐng)者的了解，反而會(huì)讓他們覺得無法對(duì)申請(qǐng)者有一個(gè)真實(shí)的認(rèn)識(shí)。
申請(qǐng)者在和寫信的人溝通時(shí)，尤其要注意這點(diǎn)。
一般說來，商學(xué)院寄來的申請(qǐng)材料中都附有表格。
推薦人可按照表格逐項(xiàng)填寫，如果遇到難以評(píng)價(jià)的項(xiàng)目可以寫I don’t know或unable to judge。
如果沒有既定的表格，推薦人可以自行按書信格式寫。

既然不能看推薦信的內(nèi)容，申請(qǐng)者對(duì)待推薦信的態(tài)度往往是“眼不見，心不煩”，把推薦信表格發(fā)給推薦人之后就聽之任之。
推薦信因此成為申請(qǐng)者無法預(yù)知的“黑洞”。
MBA申請(qǐng)者認(rèn)為，反正也不能左右推薦信的內(nèi)容，索性不在這上面花時(shí)間。
而結(jié)果往往是推薦人寫的推薦信平平，無法起到推薦作用。
專家說，其實(shí)只要多花一些心思，事先同推薦人“合謀”一下，這個(gè)問題是可以避免的。
百森商學(xué)院有個(gè)MBA的學(xué)生Kyle
Judah，在讀研究生二年級(jí)，他就是一個(gè)例子。
他說，“當(dāng)時(shí)申請(qǐng)MBA的時(shí)候，我甚至都不知道這封以我名義發(fā)出的推薦信是怎樣寫我的。”Kyle

這些付出可能都會(huì)功虧一簣，毀于失敗的推薦信。
所以當(dāng)你把自己的命運(yùn)交付他人手中時(shí)，你怎能不小心翼翼?”
當(dāng)Judah集合起所有的申請(qǐng)資料，稱之為“我的作品集”時(shí)，他讓推薦人一同看了他的文書，看了他做的項(xiàng)目的信息。
他這樣做的是目的是“推薦人看了我選擇了哪些來寫，我希望他們寫的推薦信能符合我的基調(diào)，能表達(dá)我想展示的信息。”
MBA推薦信應(yīng)怎樣寫，要忌諱哪些?
1.忌炫耀頭銜：MBA申請(qǐng)者有時(shí)候會(huì)犯這樣的錯(cuò)誤，他們往往以為顯示推薦人的職位頭銜以及推薦人同商學(xué)院的關(guān)系有利于自己的申請(qǐng)，認(rèn)為頭銜及關(guān)系比推薦人對(duì)自己的了解和對(duì)自己能力的推薦重要。
錯(cuò)!當(dāng)商學(xué)院說MBA申請(qǐng)者的推薦信找以前的直接上司來寫時(shí)，它希望你按照要求去做。
因?yàn)橹苯由纤?可能不是名人，不是第一老板)比名人對(duì)你的為人、能力更了解。
2.表揚(yáng)要具體到事件：MBA申請(qǐng)者和推薦人有個(gè)壞習(xí)慣——把推薦信看成“形式主義”，以為商學(xué)院“只想要關(guān)于能力、夢(mèng)想、決心之類的空話套話”。
事實(shí)上，商學(xué)院招生官想看到的是“真實(shí)的，站得住腳的案例，這些案例能更好的展示推薦人想表揚(yáng)的申請(qǐng)者的能力。”
3.這是推薦信，不是業(yè)績(jī)考核：申請(qǐng)者同樣需要警惕的是，很多推薦人誤以為推薦信的寫法和評(píng)論表一樣。
于是對(duì)申請(qǐng)者的評(píng)價(jià)往往“過于客觀，缺乏贊譽(yù)”。
4.不要自己代寫：現(xiàn)在自己代寫推薦信很流行，很多申請(qǐng)者為了省事，往往自己速成推薦信，然后找推薦人簽字。
這樣當(dāng)然不可取。
自己代寫推薦信的結(jié)果通常是跟糟糕的。
對(duì)于沒有時(shí)間寫推薦信或者你感覺文筆不夠出彩的推薦人，你可以先問一下推薦人對(duì)自己的評(píng)價(jià)，然后自己寫一份初稿，發(fā)給推薦人修改。
這樣做的好處是，第一，避免了誠(chéng)信問題，第二，你對(duì)發(fā)出去的推薦信內(nèi)容是有譜的。
不會(huì)稀里糊涂就被葬送了前程。
對(duì)于推薦信，MBA申請(qǐng)者最好提前和推薦人策劃一下，給推薦人提供一些曾做過的的能展示自己強(qiáng)項(xiàng)的具體案例(項(xiàng)目)。
有例子可循，推薦人寫給招生官的推薦信就能將申請(qǐng)者的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)力表現(xiàn)得“有血有肉”，而非干巴巴的“他是一個(gè)好領(lǐng)導(dǎo)”。
